The Northern Hawk Owl has been more difficult to spot recently. We have not seen him in his usual haunts on Penobscot Valley Ave since Wednesday. He was seen behind the hospital on Thursday. We could not find him most of today until late afternoon when we spotted him in fields to the east of Enfield Rd (rt 155). He was 50-100 yards off the road between Bedford Farm Road and Stone Wall Farm, about 1/2 mile south of the intersection with Penobscot Valley Ave. He was actively hunting and seemed to have caught a small furry critter. If you come to find him, be VERY careful, there is no real shoulder on Enfield Road to pull off and the traffic is heavy and pulp trucks are numerous. With the predicted snow, parking will be even worse. You could drive up Bedford Farm Road, but it is not always plowed. As always, respect private property.
