Hello All,
I am sure there will be many reports from CBC's.
People may be interested in Glaucous and Iceland Gulls. 3 sub-adult Glaucous Gulls and one adult Iceland were at the Portland Fish Pier yesterday as bait was being unloaded.
One might be confused by the low number of gulls that were present yesterday in the harbor (there may likely be more in today because of the weather) however it appears to me that the "northern" gulls that come down are real heavy scavengers around the wharfs.
Yesterday there was not much work going on at the sites however during the week I would be cautious in these areas, because of trucks and forklifts. You may not be welcome in those areas. As it was we almost ran over a tote hook with our vehicle.
On our annual sprint around Peak's Island we had 5 Barrow's Goldeneyes--three drakes on two hens--new to my Peaks Island Count list of 30+ years, and a record 4 Carolina Wrens at three locations. A minimum of 65 Purple Sandpipers will milling around the south shore around high tide.
