[Maine-birds] Androscoggin County Waterfowl and Carolina Wren

Hello All,

Dedicated most of a day to birding Androscoggin County.  Fog limited things in the morning but did hear a Carolina Wren singing on the North River Road in Auburn near the junction of Stetson Road.  Also had Blackpoll Warbler and 2 Yellow-rumped (Myrtle) Warbler.

Lake Auburn had at least 42 Common Loons (likely more in the fog), 14 Horned Grebe and 1 Red-necked Grebe along with a couple of Bald Eagles and two fly-by drake Common Merganser.

Sabattus Pond:

Sawyer Road:  6 Hooded Merganser and one basking Painted Turtle in adjacent pond, 45 Ruddy Duck, some scaup sp.

Martin's Point:  5 Bufflehead, 2 Common Goldeneye, 10 American Coot, several Hooded Mergansers.

South End Beach:  3 Lesser Scaup hens, 6 drake Common Goldeneye, 14 Hooded Merganser

Riley Road:  85 Lesser Scaup

North End by Kayak:  250 Ruddy Duck, some scaup, 10 Bufflehead, 3 Green-winged Teal, 10+ Hooded Merganser, dozens of Mallards, 200+ Canada Goose, 5 American Coot..  One Greater Yellowlegs circled overhead calling, 2 Great Blue Heron, 1 Belted Kingfisher.  One young Bald Eagle.
Many ducks on shoreline too far away and camoflaged to be ID'd.  Stayed at some distance from the birds so as not to spook them.

100 Icterids settling into cattails possibly included some Rusty Blackbirds.

Water levels at Sabattus Pond are down--at least until Sandy arrives.

Happy Birding,

Dan
