[Maine-birds] Roque Iland and link to HMS Bounty Sinks Off N.C. Coast

Hi,

Related to the same topic on two previous posts  regarding 'Sandy', a friend sent me this link this morning.

Ignore my initial response to friends, I could not cut-and-past the link successfully, so I forwarding the original.

It is too bad that there are no Captains logs listing birds seen from the original vessel, or its replica.  They did not have e-bird at the time....

Real birds:

There should be some reports of a boat trip around the Roque Island Archipelago (Jonesport) yesterday with Bob and Sandy Duchesne and a group of Maine Audubon birders.  Bird numbers and diversity were low because the goldeneyes, buffleheads and dabbling ducks are still (mostly) inland.  Long-tailed ducks started arriving in flocks last week, but many more are expected.

Highlights included a common tern (late) and higher numbers of red-throated loons.  More from Bob and Sandy.  Both races of the palm warbler were on the island, which was fairly quiet.

On my trip from Augusta to the Roque Bluffs dock, I passed a northern shrike in Beddington and a crow roost breaking up in Waterville prior to sunrise.  Those scavengers get out early to clean up our roadkills....
