[Maine-birds] Dyer Point Seawatch, 10/29 am.

Hi all,

I spent just over two hours seawatching from Dyer Point in Cape Elizabeth this morning, joined for an hour by LyB.
7:55am - 10:00am.
Mod-strong NE, variable poor to moderate visib, seas 2-4ft rapidly building.  55F.

All southbound birds tallied, small numbers of some species trickling northwards.
152 Common Eiders
132 Northern Gannets (plenty also moving north into the wind).
47 Common Loons
34 White-winged Scoters
33 Black Scoters
13 Surf Scoters
12 Red-throated Loons
12 unidentified cormorants
11 Long-tailed Ducks
10 Bonaparte's Gulls
4 Buffleheads
4 LAUGHING GULLS (getting late)
4 unidentified alcids
3 Red-breasted Mergansers
3 Great Cormorants
3 Double-crested Cormorants
2 unidentified loons
1 Lesser Scaup (northbound; first of fall)
1 Red-necked Grebe
1 Black-legged Kittiwake (first of fall)
1 UNIDENTIFIED JAEGER
1 Black Guillemot
1 ATLANTIC PUFFIN

Nothing else of note in various locations between Cape Elizabeth and Freeport this morning, and the highlight of an afternoon trip through the local fields was an immature Peregrine Falcon reigning terror on a large flock of Ring-billed Gulls.
