[Maine-birds] recent MDI highlights

With the abundance of interesting bird reports from across the state, I thought I’d share a few of my recent observations from around Mount Desert Island….

11 October. A lone Evening Grosbeak near the summit of Beech Mountain was the first I have seen on MDI in several years.

23 October. A very “birdy” ecology class outing to Breakneck Ponds in Acadia National Park included an American Bittern.

24 October. Orange-crowned Warbler and Carolina Wren were near a feeder in downtown Bar Harbor. American Pipit continues atop Cadillac Mountain. Small flocks of Snow Buntings persist atop Cadillac; I first observed them at this locale 03 October, an early date for MDI.

28 October. A Greater Scaup was found on Hamilton Pond this morning, amidst the typical Mallards and American Black Ducks.
