Took advantage of the nice weather and 1st day of the federal gov't shutdown to look in the Portland area for the White Pelican. No luck around Back Cove, Eastern Prom, Bug Light, Kettle Cove, or Crescent Beach. Highlights were Brant up close at Kettle Cove and Iceland gulls at Mill Creek Cove (behind the S. Portland Hannaford). Talked to a non-birder there who described a Gadwall from today but we didn't see it.
