[Maine-birds] Corrina Marsh, Troppy, Nightjars - Epic day

This morning I kayaked a few miles at Corinna marsh. I saw multiple American bitterns, heard Least bittern and Virginia rail, and had a female Blue Winged Teal near the north end. No sign of the Common Gallinules. The least bittern was cooing 100-200 feet north of the reported gallinule location from yesterday. The VIRA pair was calling near the reported Gallinule location.

The Troppy trip with Freeport wild bird supply was extraordinary. Although foggy, we had good looks at all the colony birds including Murres. We found the tropicbird after circling the island, and it kept passing right over or next to the boat giving agitated calls. An amazing bird. We watched it in the cove in front of it's lair at about 4-4:30. Thanks so much to Derek.

Then, I stopped at the Wildlands in Orland and I biked down to the outhouses past mushrall Meadow. The nighthawks were all over. The saw whet started singing distantly as soon as I got to the outhouses at about 8:15. The whippoorwills started singing at 8:30. At 8:45, I left the clearing with the outhouses, and could soon hear the chuck wills widow in the woods off to the west side of valley road. It was in between mushrall meadows and the outhouses to the north of the meadows, but much closer to the outhouses. I didn't see any of these — it was getting very dark and creepy so I got the heck out of there as soon as I heard all of them.

Details, some media, and full lists on eBird.

5 lifers. 11 FOYs. Truly amazing.

Happy birding!
