This past Sunday I was working around outside at midday and heard 2 Great Horned Owls hooting back and forth for several minutes. They seemed to be at some distance from each other and one was a deeper tone than the other. They were across the Mousam River from me and continued for about 20 minutes. I heard one calling later on around 4 PM. I have heard Barred Owls numerous times but I don't believe I have heard GHOW more than once and then briefly. Just curious what prompted the calling-I have checked some references but cannot find any possible explanations. Any info would be appreciated.
