Hello Dan—
I'm sorry to hear that you felt birders' behavior fell short. It's not clear from your post here what requests you made, where you made them, and what was done that you feel was inappropriate.
I can tell you that when Laura and I were there from about 3:30 to 4:30, I felt proud of our birding community. The 8-10 birders present were uniformly friendly and helpful to one another, sharing info and scope-looks. Folks parked so as not to block the road, and no one entered private property, even slightly.
I made a point of walking across the road to speak to the homeowners who were pressing apples so that they would know why people were on the street. In fact, earlier birders had told them and they reported that they had even had a chance to see the kingbird themselves. It was a very upbeat and friendly conversation. In response to my question, they said they had spoken to the owner of the farm where the bird was spending most of its time, so that they would also know. In fact, one of the owners came down to introduce herself and say hello. Folks made a point of asking if she had seen the bird and when she said "no," they made a point of getting her good scope views of it. She reported that others from the neighborhood had asked her what was going on and she told us with a certain pride what she told them.
Again, I'm sorry if you saw something that was less positive than what we saw.
Dear allPeople are not adhering to requests I made. This is my neighborhood and I work hard to foster relationships there. Do not expect me to post birds on this list again unless they are in public areas.DanOn Sat, Oct 24, 2020 at 4:26 PM Linda Woodard <lwoo...@maineaudubon.org> wrote:Western Kingbird continues at 4:15 PM. The bird was working the edge of a farm field on the east side of the road, often perching in snags very close to the road, a short distance west of I-295.Taking Hunter Road from Desert Road at Exit 20 of I-295, after the 90-degree bend, the field is on the right just past the railroad tracks and Farmview Road. It is best to park near here, and walk downhill to the northwest. The bird was often in leafless aspens in the wet swale on the right. But Dan had it further out (hence the "probable" designation) in the field on both sides of the farmhouse. There's also some space to park safely on the left at the bottom of the hill after passing the farmhouse. The shoulder in between is very steep, very narrow, and cars fly up and over these blind hills so be very careful. And as always, please respect private property by not entering the fields or yards.-Derek*****************************************
