Good afternoon! I've been a lurker on the Maine Birds google group - and it's always a joy to know what is out there...but now I have a question about bird pests!
We have a 100-year-old wood-shingled house. We feed birds with seeds and mealworms, and until this week, suet.
Recently, we've been plagued with woodpeckers pecking into our shingles.
We've tried:
-putting up flashing disks in the corners near where they peck, that worked for a bit then they came back
-filling the holes with bleach and wood putty. They drill right into them
-spraying the sides with a bleach solution
-removing the suet.
We're beside ourselves, we don't want a house of holes! Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you so much!
