[Maine-birds] killdeer

Speaking of noisy birds (someone posted about whip-poor-wills, which I would dearly love to have at my house again--had them in Durham)....our yard is once again a killdeer nursery.

We have a mama killdeer who initially brought three babies across the road from the corn field into our yard. She showed up yesterday with only two. She still has two today, not for lack of trying by a large buteo who camped out in our ash tree. I saw the adult killdeer doing her distraction display and walked down the driveway--the hawk flushed and flew off across the corn field.

My other "good" bird of the day today is an indigo bunting.
