Re: [Maine-birds] Summer Tanager in Auburn? now i have doubts....retracted...

ok, now I am convinced that I was suffering
from too quick a quick glimpse and VERY wishful thinking.
After more review and repeated visits yesterday f
rom the Cardinal family...

I think perhaps what I had was a fleeting glimpse
of a bright orangey beige/yellowish/green Cardinal fledgie...
with a darker (not orange bill) and no noticeable crest.
:-(   Sorry for the false alarm.

Keep the faith
Best Regards,

Subject: [Maine-birds] Summer Tanager in Auburn? Yard bird for me....

Hi All,

I just glimpsed (albeit briefly since I startled it away went I looked out the window)
what I am almost positive was either a female
or young male summer tanager at my platform black oil seed feeder.
Impression  - Smaller than a robin  Not as "bulky" as an oriole. but similar in size.
and orangish and yellowy/green/olive cast to the feathers. NO black at all on the wings.
Pointy sharp beak

What it was not - a finch of any sort.

Has anyone else seen a summer tanager in Auburn?
Is a summer tanager a possibility?  What do you think?

Best Regards,

Roberta Lane
