[Maine-birds] 87 Com Mergs Augusta

Hi Folks,

I stopped by the end of Canal Street this afternoon (2:45) and found a group of at least 87 common mergansers between openings in the ice.   The actuarial number may have been a few birds higher as some were diving and some were parked side-by-side.  I counted the flock about ten times and this was the highest count.  I counted individual birds with no estimating.  The breakdown of sexes was almost even with 42 females on one pass.

There was one adult herring gull who briefly joined the flock.
