[Maine-birds] Chickawaukee on Dec 12

A group of 35+ American coots huddled on the newly-formed ice surface near RTE 17 roadside this morning. No large flocks as in some previous years, but coots are reliably found at this site each December. It was interesting that when a few of the peripheral flock members strayed 30 feet away, the remaining flock joined them immediately and formed a tight configuration. Lots of diving ducks at backside of lake, but no time to survey them today.
