Despite today's rain and snow, Gloria and I ventured up the 95 to Lincoln to find the N. HAWK OWL. The driving was sketchy at best, but we figured that if we failed to spot the owl, we could at least salvage our efforts by visiting my favorite Tim Hortons in Maine. As it was, we found the owl within 10 minutes as it flew up to perch on a utility pole along Rt 2 just south of the now-famous intersection (time 11:20). I was parked at the Emera Maine building, which is also just south of said intersection. At one point the owl made an attempt at some unseen (to us) prey in the adjoining field, putting on a nice display of its flying skills, but returned to the pole empty-taloned. After 10-15 minutes of pole-sitting, it flew across to the opposite corner of the intersection, perching in the tallest pine tree at the Larkin Enterprises building. By then the snow had turned to rain, so we held a celebratory après-bird at Tims, then slip-slided back home down route 2.
