[Maine-birds] Northern Maine Birds: Northern Pintail, Bohemian Waxwings, Northern Shrikes

Russell Mount and I did a quick check of the ducks concentrated in a small pond behind the Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle today.  We were surprised to find a female Northern Pintail among the flock.  This bird has not been seen here prior despite regular visits by local birders.  To my knowledge its a first winter record for the county.  A photo of the bird is ebedded in the eBird list here:  http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S16497486

This early AM, 18 Bohemian Waxwings were seen near the Holy Rosary Church in Caribou.

Northern Shrikes are quite common lately and I have seen several this week in various spots in central Aroostook County.

Snowy Owls are still noteworthy I guess, so I'll mention that the individuals on the PT Barn in Presque Isle and at the intersection of the Connector and Route 1 are still being seen regularly.  I last saw both on Wednesday afternoon.

Evening Grosbeaks continue to be seen at least one feeder in the area.

Good Birding!
