Re: [Maine-birds] Imm Golden Eagle, probable bird #1, remains at bath lndfill

Re: Golden Eagle at Bath Landfill - and RHWoodpecker

Ditto to all that Peter observed.  I was at the landfill a little after 11:00, and got several photos of the bird soaring/circling overhead, coming into a perch (feet first), and interacting with an imm Bald Eagle, talon-to-talon.  Photos show clearly that this is Golden Eagle No. 1 (unless it's No. 3??).  As near as I can determine, No 2 was only here for 2 days (Jan 7 & 8.)

I reported in to the woman in the office, and she was very friendly and welcoming.  I told her I was going to drive down the perimeter road and watch from down there.  This was fine.  But she wanted to relay that we shouldn't walk up the pile.  Too damn cold to do that anyway, and totally unnecessary to see soaring eagles.

Meanwhile at Bee Haven Farm, the Red-headed Woodpecker continues, doing its thing stashing suet bits.  Also showing some agonistic behavior toward a Downy Woodpecker.  Joined by a small flock of Cedar Waxwings.  Photos don't really indicate much progress in the moult.

I stopped by the Bath landfill today at 1:00 pm and an immature Golden Eagle was circling over the landfill with 2 - 3 imm Bald Eagles.  The very limited white markings at the base of the inner primaries, also apparent from above as well, seem to indicate that this is GE#1, or at least a very close facsimile to #1.  It was not nearly as flashy and white as #2.

The eagles circled overhead for 2-3 minutes.

Also, 2 Iceland Gulls, 1 Glaucous Gull, and 6+ Ravens.

Best, Peter
