[Maine-birds] Isles of Shoals Christmas Bird Count: December 16 (Weather Date: January 1)

Attention CBCer's:

Weather permitting Isles of Shoals CBC will be held aboard UNH R/V Gulf Challenger on Sunday, December 16.  Expert birders will be onboard to help spot, identify, and call out birds and throw chum.  We will be landing (conditions permitting) on Star Island, NH and we will also spend time looking for pelagic birds in the circle.  We will be chumming for seabirds as well. Previous trips have had good success at finding Snowy Owls, Harlequin Ducks, Black-legged Kittiwakes, and alcids.  Reports from this fall suggest it could be a good winter for Snowy Owls!

The price of the trip will depend on participation, but I anticipate it being between 65 and 70 dollars per person.

We will leave the Coastal Marine Lab pier in New Castle at 8 am and the UNH Gulf Challenger will will return around 1 pm.  Please inform others who may be interested.

In the event of poor weather, we will be trying again on January 1.

To reserve a spot for either or both days please fill out the web form located here:

You can alternatively email me with the name(s) of the participants, contact information (phone and email) or call me at 603-801-1856; however, I prefer form reservations.
