The Facebook group, MAINE Birds now has a membership of over 19,200 and continuing to grow. By raw figures (as follows), it's now the second largest Facebook birding group in the country. Per ca pita, it is the largest.
MAINE Birds is a larger state birding group than California'a largest one (12.5k), Arizona and Southwest US (12.5k), Michican (6.8k), Ohio (8.9k), Florida (7.9k)... it's even bigger than Cape May Observatory and New Jersey Audubon! The only larger one  in the entire country is Texas with 43k. The population of Texas is 28.3 million and Maine is 1.3 million.
I cross post everything from the list serve to that group. In return, I also post to the list serve any significant sightings from the FB group. The FB group is educationally based. I am always looking for folks with good ID skills and info to contribute to the group. Any questions, please ask me off list. Facebook isn't all bad!
Happy holiday season to all,
