An amazing 38 Iceland Gulls were among the gulls above Shawmut Dam (Fairfield) from 2:10 to 3:10 this afternoon. Most were first-year birds; a few were 2nd and 3rd-yrs. Thirty percent of the gulls were Iceland Gulls! Also present was the continuing adult Lesser Black-backed Gull.
Yesterday there were no gulls present at 11:40 a.m., but by 1 p.m. 30 or so birds were there, including the Lesser Black-backed. Today, the entire group departed suddenly at 3:10 p.m. and did not return.
Good birding!
