[Maine-birds] Biddeford Pool- Western Sandpiper, Piping plover

Hello All,
I spent the day in Southern Maine with Paul Miliotis, Paul Donahue, Teresa Wood and my mother, Andrea Darok and sister, Maya Deming.
At about 3:30 this afternoon we reached Biddeford Pool area. The tide was rising when we arrived but had progressed enough so that there was no exposed flats. We went to the beach on the other side of the pool to check roosting shorebirds.

Birds were scattered all down the beach. Three white rumped sandpipers were roosting along the wrack line when we first arrived. Soon a large group of mainly semipalmated sandpipers and Sanderlings flew onto the rocks at the end of the beach toward the left. We were able to pick out two white rumps out of this flock and one juvenile Western Sandpiper (photo by Paul Donahue) As we left the flock at about 4:00-4:30 we came about a juvenile piping plover among the wrack.

All in all a productive day!

Mathias
