[Maine-birds] Owls Head and Weskeag Marsh - Jan 21

10 (ten) Iceland Gulls (1 adult) were frequenting the lobster pounds at Owls Head Harbor this morning, where they outnumbered Herring Gulls.
A solo Bonaparte's Gull also there.  No sign of a Com Black-Headed Gull.

At Weskeag Marsh, saw a distant Rough-Legged Hawk soaring over the treeline to the W.  Also a perched, pale-headed Imm. bird, better scoped from the Weskeag Farmstand.  Distant even for digiscoping.

Cruised along nearby Butler Road, where I witnessed a very low-flying Red-Tailed Hawk attack a target in a small grove of saplings.  The target was apparently a Ruffed Grouse (!) which then flew away at a very high altitude, toward the East, back across Buttermilk.  It was easily outstripping the hawk, which fell farther and farther behind, though seemingly giving it his best.  I think this is a personal best for height for the grouse.
