[Maine-birds] 400 Robins Augusta

Hi folks,

I forgot to post this. Last Thursday I encountered a flock of about 400 American robins with about 15% of the birds that I inspected closely were the Newfie morph...classy birds.  There were also about 100 waxwings but I could not get my glasses on them before they departed.

They were located behind the Augusta town office building.  The flock extended down into the public park below the bridge and continued up to the old hospital on Arsenal Street.  The estimate is probably conservative as birds kept arriving from the direction of the hospital and I could not easily keep track of them.

The birds that I could easily inspect (about 175-200) were feeding under two fruit-laden crab apples immediately behind the building off Arsenal Street.  This was the first day that maintenance workers (next building) had seen them there this year.  They were gone the next day.

Good birding,

Norm Famous
