[Maine-birds] Great Horned Owl Mating Behavior

I was very surprised to see a beheaded Brown Thrasher in our backyard this morning. First, because it involves a Thrasher this time of year, and, second, because I know who did it. The Great Horned Owl has been calling for several nights.  Beheading birds and small mammals is very typical owl mating behavior and I'll probably find the head placed very neatly on a bush.  We once had a bush with two squirrel heads on it.  Yuk, I prefer flowers...
