[Maine-birds] This Week's Highlights, Shorebird High Counts, and Free Program on Sandy Point, 7/14-20.

Hi all,
A few sightings of note for me in the past seven days included:
- 2 Tricolored Herons, Scarborough Marsh, 7/16 (with a client).
- 1 Red-throated Loon, Biddeford Pool Beach, 7/16 (with a client).
- 1 Carolina Wren, Biddeford Pool, 7/16 (with a client).
- 1 Red-necked Grebe, 7 Black Scoters, and 4 Long-tailed Ducks, Simpson's Point, Brunswick, 7/16 (with a client)  - thanks for the reports, Gordon!
- 2 Bank Swallows, Hedgehog Mountain Park, Freeport, 7/18 (my 144th species here).
- 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo and 1 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Old Town House Park, North Yarmouth, 7/20.  BGGN bred here for the first time this year (my first local breeding record), with one fledgling observed last week.
 
And my shorebird high counts this week were as follows (all adult birds except Willets and where otherswide noted):
Black-bellied Plover: 21, Fort Baldwin, Phippsburg, 7/19.
Semipalmated Plover: 41, Popham Beach State Park, Phippsburg, 7/19.
Piping Plover: pairs with chick at multiple locations.
Killdeer: 1, multiple locations.
AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER: 1, Pine Point, Scarborough, 7/16 (with a client) and 7/17 (with Jeannette).
Greater Yellowlegs: 7, Eastern Road Trail, 7/16 (with a client).
Lesser Yellowlegs: 100+, Eastern Road Trail, 7/16 (with a client).
Solitary Sandpiper: 1, Eastern Road Trail, 7/16 (with a client).
"Eastern" Willet: 47, Pine Point, 7/16 (with a client).
Spotted Sandpiper: 1, multiple locations.
Whimbrel: 3, Pine Point, 7/17 (with Jeannette).
Ruddy Turnstone: 2, Fort Baldwin, 7/19.
Sanderling: 24, Hill's Beach, Biddeford Pool, 7/16 (with a client).
Semipalmated Sandpiper: 526, Popham Beach State Park, 7/19.
Least Sandpiper: 75+, Eastern Road Trail, 7/16 (with a client).
STILT SANDPIPER: 2, Eastern Road Trail, 7/16 (with a client).
Short-billed Dowitcher: 303, Pine Point, 7/17 (with Jeannette).
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, ssp HENDERSONII: 1, Hill's Beach, 7/16 (with a client; located earlier in the day by Luke Seitz).
 
And finally, if you're interested in seeing my presentation, "A Sandy Point Case Study," I'll be offering it at the Freeport Public Library on Monday, July 23rd at 7:00pm.  This program includes the geography and weather conditions that work to produce the Morning Flight at Sandy Point, Cousin's Island, Yarmouth in the fall.  This is a free program presented as an example of a number of the topics covered in my book, "How to Be a Better Birder."
