[Maine-birds] Golden Eagle - Bath

I stopped briefly at the landfill this morning and watched from the entrance gate.  No Golden Eagle today, but very active Bald Eagles, stirring things up.

As you drive out High Street in Bath, on the way to the landfill, if there is eagle activity the gulls will be massed overhead, and be very visible.  Such it was this A.M., but the instigators were 2 adult Bald Eagles and a few more immatures.  If this happens when you visit, and you dip on the Golden Eagle, suggest you go get a cup of coffee and return in an hour or so.  Persistence just might pay off.

And if you do score a Golden Eagle, please note plumage details, especially those of the underwing.

Meanwhile, at the same time on the ice visible off the mouth of Whiskeag Creek, three pairs of Bald Eagles (all sub-adult) were standing at widely separated spots on the ice.  Strange behavior.  There may be fissures in the ice that one can't see from the bridge.  I know they occasionally partake of carp this time of year, in this area.
