[Maine-birds] Maine RBA - January 31, 2014

York County

On the 28th, three SNOWY OWLS were reported from the southern York Coast. One each at: Fort Foster in Kittery, the Cliff House in Ogunquit, and the parking lot at the north end of Wells Beach.

A DOVEKIE was seen at the Nubble Lighthouse in Cape Neddick on the 28th.

On the 30th, a KING EIDER was reported from Stearns Road in Ogunquit.

At least 4 SNOWY OWLS continued around Biddeford Pool this week.

Lewiston-Auburn

In Minot, a SNOWY OWL was found along Pottle Hill Road on the 23rd and continued as of the 28th.

Kennebec River Valley (Augusta-Waterville)

Continuing from the 18th, a possible THAYER'S GULL is being seen at the Shawmut Dam in Fairfield. Best viewing is accessed by going to the east end of Kennebec St. and turning left, then walking up to look over the area above the dam. This bird was present through the 30th.

Midcoast

Continuing from January 2nd, an immature RED-HEADED WOODPECKER is still being seen along Whiskeag Road in Bath. Most observations are near the Whiskeag Creek, near the address: 166 Whiskeag Road, Bath.

Two DOVEKIES were spotted from Pemaquid Point on the morning of the 25th. A single bird was still being seen here on the morning of the 26th.

Central Maine

Since November 12th, a NORTHERN HAWK OWL has been seen near the intersection of Route 116 (Penobscot Valley Ave / Route 95 Connector Road) and Route 2 (West Broadway). While not always easy to find, the owl was still being reported as of the 31st.

Downeast

Two SNOWY OWLS continue to be reported from the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport in Trenton through this week.
