A great day for birding. During Rich MacDonald's bird tour in Bar Harbor our group stopped by the yard here to look for the RUBL. They weren't here but Michael Davis spotted a Merlin. Everyone took photos and the Merlin was very co-operative. Later I looked at the spot where he was sitting on our railing and discovered a red squirrel's tunnel entrance right below.
After the group left, about an hour later, the Rusty Blackbirds showed up in the yard. I called Rich and he returned with Don and his two sons. We all took photos. The birds were chattering from the trees on the driveway. After everyone left the birds came down to some scattered corn near the house and I took photos from the kitchen window. Rich has great photos, too. If you would like to see mine, and the Merlin, go to www.acadiabirds.wordpress.com You may need to go to the sidebar and select "birds" from the archive list. Right now these birds are right there on the front pages.Maine birds mailing list
