As I was refilling the drip bucket for the bird bath this afternoon, a male RT hummer flew right up to me, determined that I was not a threat, and proceeded to dip into 5-6 blooms on the plant at my knees. After his snack, he made another up-close-and-personal reconnaissance flight around me, then zoomed away. During our encounter, he was never more than six inches away, and I was not wearing red. I felt...well, darn it, special! Rather perfect timing, too, as I've just recently read "The Bluebird Effect" by Julie Zickefoose. I highly recommend it.
