All,
I am out of state birder and was wondering what the probability for
seeing both species of Skuas in July. Pete Dunne mentions in his book
"Essential Field Guide Companion" the possibility that non-breeding
Great Skuas may be present the Gulf of Maine in the Summer. Just
wondering what the proabilities are and was hoping someone with lots
of Pelagic birding experience in Maine could comment.
I spotted a Skua on the Whale Watch on July 6th out of Bar Harbor and
just wanted to know what the probabilities were for both species. I
was able to get the naturalist on board on the bird and she thought it
was a South Polar Skua and I at the time assumed that was the only
possibility. There was a photo taken but unfortunately not by me even
though I had a camera at hand.
many thanks,
