The list-serv isn't just to direct people to birds--though that's a
wonderful benefit of it--but also to share sightings throughout Maine
that others might not be able to duplicate but can still appreciate
and gain knowledge from. I enjoy knowing that someone out there has
seen a three-toed woodpecker even if I can't go see that same bird
myself. And I hope that when I post a cool sighting, people enjoy
hearing about what I saw even if I was on private property and can't
necessarily direct anyone there to duplicate the experience. When
people post what they see in their back yards, they aren't necessarily
inviting the list-serv to come visit them and see it for themselves.
:) So you can think of the list-serv as a "knowledge pool" as much as
a road map to the birds, and enjoy vicariously when necessary!
Cheers,
Kristen
