I've been viewing a relatively large alcid from the east side of Mackworth Island looking toward Great Diamond Island.
-- The viewing location was near a bench in memory of Karen A. and Steven E. Kunz.
The alcid was too distant for me to assess the bill shape, but it appeared bulky and was larger than a Bufflehead and smaller than a Common Eider. There was a lot of white visible above the waterline-at times extending the length of the bird. Based on size, I suspect one of the Murres or a Razorbill.
Unfortunately, my scope was in the car, so it remains a "large alcid" on my ebird list.
