[Maine-birds] Northern Goshawk, Industry

Greetings, birding friends! I was fortunate to get binoculars on a first-year Northern Goshawk perched (and later in flight) on the edge of our meadow early this morning. This is my first-ever "yard Gos" and ranks as probably my 2nd-coolest all-time yard bird, after a spectacular encounter with a Short-Eared Owl in North Yarmouth in 2004. Unruffled by the mighty predator, a flock of about 35 chittering Common Redpolls were simultaneously somehow scrounging a bit of grit from our snow-covered road.

Go itinerant, subadult raptors of the North!

Peace & good birding,
Scott Cronenweth
