Thank you for this very interesting response Dana. What seemed odd to us was the timing of their arrival (beginning to arrive about a half hour after sunset) and then settling down about an hour later. In our experience crows are really moving toward their roosts at or around sunset so we wondered whether there was some disturbance to their roost site that made them move in full darkness. Apparently they just recently started to assemble in this area. Standing on the bank nearby you would never have known that so many crows were present because they were nearly quiet, then at least two hours after sunset. But they were adjacent to a little park so conceivably they could move to those few trees which would be quite a sight given all the birds! Very cool.
